There is one living and true God, revealed in nature as the Creator, Preserver, and Righteous governor of the universe; and in the Scriptures as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; yet as one God, infinitely wise and good, whom all intelligent creatures are supremely to love, adore and obey. Christ is God manifest in the flesh; in His divine nature truly God, in His human nature truly man. The mediator between God and man, once crucified, He is now risen and glorified, and is our ever present Savior and Lord. The Scriptures assign to the Holy Spirit all the attributes of God. God exercises a wide and benevolent providence over all beings and all things by maintaining the constitution and laws of nature. He also performs special acts, not otherwise provided for, as the highest welfare of men requires. Man was created innocent, but by disobedience fell into a state of sin and condemnation. His posterity, therefore, inherits a fallen nature of such tendencies that all who come to years of accountability, sin and become guilty before God. The Son of God by His incarnation, life, sufferings, death, and resurrection effected for all a redemption from sin that is full and free, and is the ground of salvation by faith. God determined from the beginning to save all who should comply with the conditions of salvation. Hence by faith in Christ men become His elect. The human will is free and self-controlled, having power to yield to the influence of the truth and the Spirit, or to resist them and perish. God desires the salvation of all, the Gospel invites all, the Holy Spirit strives with all, and whosoever will may come and take of the water of life freely. All believers in Christ, who through grace persevere in holiness to the end of life, have promise of eternal salvation. BAPTISM, or the immersion of believers in water, and the LORD'S SUPPER, are ordinances to be perpetuated under the Gospel. FEET WASHING, an ordinance teaching humility, is of universal obligation, and is to be ministered to all true believers. God commanded tithes and offerings in the Old Testament: Jesus Christ endorsed it in the Gospel (Matt. 23:23), and the apostle Paul said, "Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him" (1 Cor. 16:2a). The divine law requires that one day in seven be set apart from secular employments and amusements, for rest, worship, holy works, and activities, and for personal communion with God. Christen and Catie who graduated in the Spring of 2013 from Welch College with degrees in Education. They welcomed Nate Caudill into the family, as the husband of Christen, in March of 2014. Their grandparenting role began in 2017 with granddaughter, Evalyn and in 2022 with grandson, Cooper. Allen is a graduate of Welch College and has his Master’s in Youth and Family Ministry from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. In addition to his duties as lead pastor at Cofer’s, he also is a mentor in the areas of students, leadership, and missions. Jeff and Calisse are Michigan natives who moved to Nashville in 1996. Jeff has a BS in ministry from Welch College and a Master of Education/Leadership from Trevecca. He is addicted to coffee, a fan of MI sports teams, and has a love for participating in corporate Worship. Calisse has several years of administrative experience and a strong desire for children to learn, grow, and follow Christ.  They have been married for over 45 years, have two married daughters, and are Poppa and Nonna to two granddaughters and three grandsons. Jeff and Calisse are thrilled to be in the service of God and His church and strive to be more in awe of God every day. Our congregation is made up of businessmen, stay at home moms, teachers, preachers, missionaries, addicts, disabled, elderly, infants, single, married, divorced, and more.  The dress on Sunday mornings ranges from semi-formal (suit and ties) to business casual to jeans and a shirt. Come in whatever you are comfortable in and you will be welcomed. On Wednesdays you will typically find us in business-casual or casual.  We strive to make everyone welcome no matter what one's understanding of the Scriptures. We have a ministry to Spanish speakers. Cofer organized the church in 1880 in the home of William T. Trotter (it was an old Civil War barracks on a dirt road).  He served as pastor until his death in 1885. During this time, a building was erected at the corner of Buena Vista and Scott Street. The church was then named North Nashville Free Will Baptist Church. Later, the congregation changed its name to honor the founding pastor and thus the name became Cofer’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. The church building burned down about ten years later and was rebuilt on Arthur Avenue (near what is now Garfield). The congregation moved to the brick building on Tenth Ave in 1930. In 1962, the congregation agreed to build a new church building at the corner of Clarksville Highway and King’s Lane. This building was dedicated in 1966. In 1994, Cofer’s Chapel moved to its present location. Although there have been many pastors over the years and even various locations, Cofer’s Chapel FWB Church has remained steadfast in her teaching of Scripture and has been instrumental in denominational work with the National Association of Free Will Baptists for decades. Our goal and passion for the student ministry at Cofer's Chapel is to ensure our students truly take ownership of their faith and for students to know what they believe with full confidence. We long to see them to fully understand what it means to be a Christian both theologically and practically. Se anima a los hispanos a participar plenamente en la comunidad de Cofer's; pues nos vemos como un solo pueblo. Ahora estamos en nuestro octavo año de ministerio hispano. El servicio de adoración incluye muchas características bilingües: la letra de canciones en inglés y español siempre que sea posible, un llamado a la adoración en ambos idiomas, y traducción simultánea al español del sermón dominical, anuncios, oraciones y actividades especiales usando auriculares.  Los adultos hispanos y otras personas cuyo inglés puede ser limitado asisten a una clase del Grupo de Conexión (Escuela Dominical) los domingos por la mañana a las 9:00 con lecciones impartidas completamente en español. Los hijos de hispanos asisten a clases en inglés, ya que generalmente pueden aprender, comprender y comunicarse en inglés muy rápidamente, y asisten a escuelas donde se habla inglés primero.
